At Brindiamo, we believe that every whiskey tells a story. Our Flight Spotlight series showcases curated whiskey experiences that highlight craftsmanship, blending, and innovation. This time, we ventured to Monks Road Boiler House an intimate yet lively whiskey destination in Louisville, to explore a special Log Still Distillery flight.

A Tribute to Heritage: The Monks Road Experience

Monks Road Boiler House isn’t just another bourbon bar—it’s a celebration of Kentucky’s deep whiskey roots. This venue, set in the heart of Louisville, offers an atmosphere that blends history, hospitality, and expertly crafted spirits. From its rustic yet refined decor to a whiskey selection that pays homage to tradition while embracing innovation, Monks Road Boiler House is a must-visit for enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Our curated Log Still Distillery whiskey flight was designed to take tasters on a journey through the brand’s unique approach to bourbon and rye. With a lineup that spans bold Tennessee expressions to finely aged Kentucky straight whiskeys, each pour showcased a distinct element of Log Still’s dedication to quality and storytelling.

A Curated Whiskey Flight

The Log Still Distillery flight we explored featured four distinct expressions, each highlighting a different aspect of the brand’s craftsmanship:

Rattle & Snap Tennessee Straight Whiskey

Named after an old southern game of chance, Rattle & Snap embraces the rewards of risk, crafted with a nod to Tennessee whiskey traditions and a touch of Bluegrass flair. This expression undergoes the Lincoln County process, filtering through charcoal for a smooth, refined finish.

  • 4-Year: Aged to perfection, this classic sour mash delivers notes of vanilla, nutmeg, and spice, culminating in a long-lasting, sweet finish. Ideal for cocktails but enjoyable on its own.

  • 8-Year: A bold yet well-balanced whiskey with layers of sweet maple, banana, and a hint of cinnamon spice. Best savored neat or on the rocks.

Monk’s Road Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon

This small-batch bourbon is crafted with wheat as the predominant secondary grain, resulting in a smooth and balanced sip. Designed to be approachable yet complex, it delivers warm notes that create a welcoming drinking experience.

  • Aroma: Caramel, nutty, cinnamon, maple, and peppercorn.

  • Taste: A rich, nutty combination of pecans and walnuts intertwined with dried cherries, cinnamon spice, and peppery vanilla.

  • Finish: A soft vanilla spice introduction, followed by a warm earthiness that concludes with a pleasantly spiced note.

Monk’s Road Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey (100 Proof)

Monk’s Road Rye Whiskey embraces a farm-to-glass approach, using Kentucky Heritage-grown rye and limestone water to craft a spirit that reflects the land and distillery. With a commitment to authenticity, this whiskey embodies the true spirit of its roots.

  • Aroma: Dried apricots and baking spices.

  • Taste: Incredibly silky on the palate, with layers of burnt sugar and an array of baking spices, creating a balance of sweetness and warmth.

  • Finish: Notably long and earthy, enriched with delicate vanilla notes, delivering a memorable and refined drinking experience.

Faithfully Crafted Kentucky Straight Bourbon

The Trinity Blend Bourbon is the latest release from Log Still Distillery, created in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Louisville. This special release celebrates three foundational pillars: faith, family, and craftsmanship, honoring both Kentucky’s bourbon-making heritage and the values of community.

Crafted from three distinct barrel mash bills, The Trinity Blend delivers a layered tasting experience:

  • Aroma: A rich bouquet of toasted oak and caramel with subtle spice.

  • Taste: The warmth of butterscotch melds with deep cinnamon and clove, creating a complex yet harmonious profile.

  • Finish: A lingering smoky spiced oak finish that encapsulates tradition and innovation.

This bourbon marks a milestone for Log Still Distillery as it debuts its state-of-the-art bottling line, ensuring that future releases are crafted and bottled entirely on-site. A portion of proceeds from each bottle will go toward community initiatives supported by the Archdiocese of Louisville, further reinforcing the mission behind this partnership.
